Self Drive

Driving to the Alps by car is very easy for anyone who is relatively used to driving - with the exceptional network of motorways in France and our detailed directions, it takes away the hassle of carrying ski equipment and also waiting in airports.

If you live close to the Channel Ports, the total length of travelling time can be almost the same if you drive as if you fly from London.  With self drive, it is possible to get an extra 2 days skiing by driving out on Friday and back on the Sunday, perhaps staying in one of the many en-route hotels overnight to break the journey - the ultimate in flexibility both en-route and in the resort.  All along the route you will find a variety of stopover hotel - such as the Ibis Budget chain or why not think about something a bit more personal and look at Stopover Connections who can book you into a private B&B along the route?

Our chalets all have free parking close-by and parking at self catered apartments is always available but varies by apartment.

We are able to provide channel crossing as an inclusive part of your holiday - please ask us for details of the pricing including your cross channel travel.  We can offer several alternatives for the crossing with either a ferry or Eurotunnel services.

P&O Ferry

Eurotunnel Le Shuttle

With a crossing time of only 35 minutes from Folkestone to Calais, Eurotunnel Le Shuttle offers the fastest Channel crossing with your car.  Its reliable service operates round the clock, 365 days a year, taking the hassle out of travelling to the Continent.  Choose from up to 4 departures an hour during peak periods - no other cross-Channel operator offers you more choice.

With its own motorway junction (11a M20), access to the Passenger Terminal couldn't be simpler.  Prior to boarding the shuttles, you will pass through both UK and French frontier controls which means on arrival in France, you simply drive off the shuttle and onto the European motorway network.

Whilst onboard, relax in the comfort of your own car during the short crossing.  The Eurotunnel experience is simple and hassle free - no wonder they are the preferred choice for over 1 million motorists each year.

FlexiPlus Upgrade

Upgrade to FlexiPlus to benefit from a dedicated check-in, exclusive lounge serving complimentary non-alcoholic drinks and snacks and priority boarding on the next available shuttle.

Please note: Height restrictions – when you book let us know if your car and equipment are more than 1.85m high

Snowchains and Other Essential Equipment

When driving in the Alps, it is a legal requirement to carry snow chains and other safety equipment in the vehicle in case of poor weather conditions - even if you have a 4x4 vehicle, this rule applies unless your car is fitted with proper snow tyres (which are not the same as the winter tyres readily available in the UK).  If you do not have the proper equipment, the Gendarmerie will stop you from entering the mountain roads in times of heavy snow and you will not be able to reach the resort.  Snowchains and other required equipment can be purchased or rented in the UK before departure - they are specific to the wheel size of your vehicle so you must ensure that they fit properly as otherwise they are useless!

It is also necessary to carry a warning triangle, first aid kit, spare bulb kit, luminous emergency jacket and a breathalyser kit (although this latest item has been subject to changes of law both in and out so may not be necessary) - and don't forget you need to divert your headlights!

We have negotiated discounts with one of the major suppliers in the UK for our customers for either purchase or rental of snowchains and for provision of the various kits needed to drive on the continent..  Polar Chains can advise you and offer the UK's widest choice in chains - they also offer in-car DVD players and Satellite Navigation Systems along with many other pieces of equipment.  You must mention our name when you call in order to receive your 10% discount on their public prices.
