Ski Amis has been named by the British Travel Awards (BTA's) as one of the shortlisted contenders for the Best Ski and Winter Sports Tour Operator Award 2012

Ski Amis operates 18 catered chalets in the French Alps and has been operating as a family business since 1989.  The company’s ethos is providing a high quality service to its clients at a value for money price – with the emphasis on highly trained chalet and resort staff, comfortable chalets with hot-tubs close to the piste, excellent home-cooked food in plentiful supply and a support team who care that every guest has a perfect holiday.  Ski Amis catered chalets are located in the top resorts of La Tania and Les Menuires (Three Valleys) as well as La Plagne and Les Arcs (Paradiski) – the company also operates a self catered programme with thousands of privately owned apartments and chalets available to book online and a fully licenced transfer service with 15 minibuses operating from Geneva and Chambery airports

Ed van Zadelhoff, the company’s Operations Director said “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the Best Ski and Winter Sports Tour Operator Award 2012 – we have always tried to be different in the way we approach our business with myself and Christine (my wife and co-director) based in the resort during the ski season taking a very hands on approach to the service provided to our guests during their holiday.  To help our staff consistently deliver the quality service we demand for our clients, we have documented procedures and standard ways of doing things across all our chalets and we personally train all our staff for three weeks before the season starts in all aspects of their job to make sure they are committed to the quality service we want to provide.  We have fixed menus to make sure the quality and quantity of food is of a high standard everywhere – but our recipes and menu plans include all sorts of common dietary requirements and we can easily cope with vegetarians, gluten allergy, lactose allergy, nut allergy, kids menus and just about anything our guests can come up with!  I myself drive one of our transfer vehicles on arrival days so I keep in touch with our guests face-to-face (sometimes incognito!) and know what is really going on in our company – and when things go wrong we are on hand to find solutions as quickly as possible.  Our office in the UK is run by our daughter, Danielle, who has the same commitment to making sure every guest has a great holiday – she and her team efficiently deal will all the preparations in advance and are on hand to answer every question that may arise.  Our sales team knows all our chalets personally, having visited them during their training period so we are able to make sure the guest makes the right choice to suit their expectations and their budget and we pride ourselves in our flexibility to create an ideal custom-made holiday package for every guest.

 

We have a loyal following of guests and we’re sure they will all vote for us based on their experiences with us over the years – but as a small company we’re up against some stiff competition so even if we don’t win, we’re delighted to have been shortlisted and are proud to add the nominee badge to our credentials!

 

BTA’s chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said: “Ski Amis is to be congratulated on reaching the finals of the prestigious British Travel Awards.  The largest consumer voted awards programme in the UK, The BTAs are designed to reward the best companies in travel, and the winning accolade is the benchmark for excellence when it comes to finding out who really is the best in the business of travel for the UK consumer. All companies entered for an Award were put before a core selection of industry professionals, drawn from the BTA Academy, a panel of respected individuals in business from both in and outside the travel industry, who whittled the nominations down to the list of final nominees in each of the seventy-five categories. The next stage sees the shortlisted companies put before the public vote with voting promoted through BTA media partners which include The Times, Sunday Times, The Sun, Sunday Sun and the Global Radio stations, including LBC and Classic FM.  Shortlisted companies are also encouraged to lobby their happy customers for votes! 

 

The winners will be the companies with the most votes - in 2011 over 700,000 votes were cast with the voting process and results scrutinized and audited by independent auditors Deloitte LLP. The winners of the 2012 British Travel Awards will be announced at a glittering ceremony on 1 November at the Battersea Evolution in Battersea Park, London.
