Rail Travel |
|
 |
|
Travel to the Alps by rail is a lovely way to travel - and particularly the Eurostar Direct service which travels during the day. The pure simplicity of boarding a train in the UK and getting off just half an hour away from your accommodation, without the hassle of traffic and airports gains the rail services a lot of points in our opinion! We can offer various options for travel by rail from the UK to the Alps:
- Daytime Eurostar direct on a Saturday
- Overnight Eurostar direct (normal rail seat) overnight Friday night, return Saturday night
- Indirect rail services via Paris on any day of the week (sleeper services and normal rail seats available

Direct Eurostar Service - leaves London St Pancras or Ashford International Kent and travels directly to Moutiers, Aime or Bourg St Maurice without changing trains. Travel is in a normal rail seat as there is no sleeper service available on the Eurostar train so the overnight services can be a little uncomfortable (and it arrives at 05h50 in the morning!!). The daytime service, however, is a relaxing way to travel arriving in resort in good time for dinner.
Overnight services depart London on Friday evening and arrive very early Saturday morning, returning the following Saturday night. Daytime services depart London at about 10am on the Saturday, arriving betweeh 17h30 and 18h00 in resort. Prices by quotation only - guideline price per person return for off-peak travel is as follows. Peak weeks are significantly higher . Daytime: from £169 return depending on date of travel and availability Night service: from £149 return depending on date of travel and availability
Indirect Services - you can take a Eurostar service on any day of the week to connect with standard TGV services in France which will take you from Paris to the resorts both overnight in sleeper services and during the daytime. These services will normally mean a change of station in Paris and sometimes at Chambery or Lyon but do give additional flexibility with dates and times of travel. They are often also cheaper than the direct services available. Prices are by quotation only.

Transfers to the Resort The transfer from Moutiers,
Aime or Bourg St Maurice to our accommodation takes approximately 30
minutes by minibus and costs £35 per person return, based on a minimum
charge of 2 people. Our minibus is fully licenced and operates directly to your accommodation. Word of warning .... Theoretically, the overnight services allow you to ski for two extra days
- they leave the UK on Friday evening and arrive in the resorts early
on Saturday morning, returning the following Saturday night. However,
there are a few drawbacks to this - namely you are likely to be tired and
realistically many of our most well intentioned guests find they simply
can't ski as they had hoped! Unfortunately, due to chalet changeovers
and departing guests, we are not able to provide a bedroom or shower
facilities to guests arriving and departing on the overnight services -
which means if you are too tired to ski, you don't have anywhere you
can crash out and will find yourself wandering aimlessly around the
resort! This issue has been a point of contention several times and we
feel it important to point out in advance - however much we would love
to accommodate your request for your bedroom, we simply cannot do this
when our chalets and apartments are still full from the previous week.
Likewise, on the departure day, you need to leave your accommodation
during the morning of the Saturday and we are unable to offer you
shower facilities when you return from skiing before boarding the train
as by that time the FOLLOWING week's guests have arrived!!! We are
happy to provide luggage storage and a place for you to change into
your ski gear with our catered chalet accommodation (check with us beforehand) but
you need to bear the shower issue in mind when planning your journey.
This is of particular importance for the overnight Eurostar service
which arrives in resort before 6am when not only can you not have access to the chalet but nothing is open in the resort either. |
