Les Arcs and Peisey Vallandry

A purpose built resorts covering different levels of 2000, 1800, 1600 and with two lower, prettier villages of Vallandry and Peisey

Les Arcs cannot be described as a pretty resort by any stretch of the imagination - it consists of linked resort villages, all purpose built with high rise glass and concrete apartment buildings.  However, the pistes can be fantastic and the purpose built nature of the resort makes it convenient for all facilities.

Snow conditions in the higher resorts are generally very good with pistes groomed to a high standard - however, the lack of snow cannons compared to it's neighbouring resort of La Plagne means that even 1800 can be less than perfect at the beginning and end of the season.

The high pistes of Arcs 2000 are stunningly good runs - although graded almost all black, many of them are not particularly difficult for the experts.  The resort in general offers a choice of runs for intermediates and experts with some stunning long runs from top to bottom - such as the Aigle which descends down to Vallandry providing a wide, well groomed "wow" piste!

Most accommodation in Les Arcs is based around the classic, French poky apartments and studios with very few high quality, large properties.  If it's only the snow you want - Les Arcs is a good choice.

In respect of nightlife and mountain restaurants, again Arcs 1800 is the place to be.  There are very few restaurants in Arcs 1600 or 2000 - with one notable exception just above the village in the middle of the piste at Arcs 2000.  Here you will find the highest bakery in the Alps and from our personal experience I can only say the food is fantastic - be warned, if you want a table at lunchtime you have to book in advance.  There are several bars and nightclubs in Arcs 1800.
