La Plagne
and Montalbert

|
A vast
playground for the intermediates with some excellent off-piste terrain and
good nursery slopes for beginners - a huge variety of interlinked villages
with a good snow record
La Plagne is a
resort consisting of 10 different villages -
all of which have a different character. The high soul-less villages
of Plagne Soleil, Plagne Villages, Plagne Bellecote and Plagne Centre are
purpose built concrete jungles offering excellent snow conditions and
doorstep skiing. Belle Plagne is the higher, but very busy, village
resort with chalet-style architecture and a more appealing village centre.
The lower village resorts are traditionally built around old hamlets and
offer a beautiful environment and still the benefits of a large resort.
The north facing lower villages, one of which is
Montalbert where our catered accommodation is focused,
have a good snow record and are helped with an extensive network of
snow cannons and tree-lined north facing pistes. Recent upgrades to the lift
systems mean that queues are rare and access between the villages is easy. |
 |
|
And
now, with the opening of
the long awaited Vanoise Express link, the resort has been joined with
Les
Arcs to create the massive "Paradiski" area
to rival the Three Valleys in size. On skis from Montalbert, it is
approximately an hour and a bit to the link and achievable for most
intermediate skiers who are happy to cover distance - our ski hosting
provides the possibility of one day in the week guided trip to Les Arcs,
reaching Arcs 2000 for lunch. |
 |
Montalbert,
one of the smaller pretty villages, is built in traditional Savoyarde style and
nestles just below the tree line offering many
beautiful blue and green pistes back to the village. The pistes are
protected by an extensive network of snow canons to assure a return on skis
right to the end of the season.
Montalbert is linked
easily to
the entire La Plagne area and with just a
couple of chair lifts, you are in Plagne Centre. There are pistes
for all standards
- easy green runs to learn, blue and reds in profusion for the intermediates and some
very challenging reds and blacks
for the more adventurous - including the 17km run from the
glacier to Montchavin or a choice of reds and black runs
back towards Montalbert.
For beginners, the village of Montalbert
has nursery pistes in the centre, plus a free drag lift to start you off.
The area
also has extensive off-piste skiing, with fields of powder and couloirs to
challenge the brave. |
 |
For snowboarders, there
are four snow parks in various areas of La Plagne, a boarder-gliss and a well maintained half-pipe as well as the large
off-piste powder fields.
The 2006-2007 season sees continued
improvements in the lift system and enlargement of pistes and snow cannoned
areas |
 |
| In the area are a number of apres-ski
activities including the chance to try out the Olympic bob-sleigh track
for an 80 kph "white knuckle" ride on a 4 man bob-taxi
or on the new single person luge. We can organise excursions for the over 16's (subject to weather
conditions and track opening times).
There are also skidoos to hire or the chance to
experience huski sledding ........ full information on
all the local activities is available in our chalets.
