Resort Information Val d'Isere |
|
 |
| |
Val d'Isere is one of the most famous resorts of Europe with a reputation for excellent skiing for advanced skiers and ideal for intermediates who want to build up the miles. Val d'Isere has an attractive architecture with
many stone and wood clad buildings built in a stylish way. The resort is spread along the valley road and in the winter is as far as you can go - the Isereran pass which takes you into Italy
is only open during the summer months and serves as a piste during the ski season!
Val d'Isere is linked to Tignes to form the "Espace Killy" area and together they have an extensive ski area of 300km. The resort is served by a shuttle bus linking together the village of La Daille at one end with Le Fornet at the other end and all the other areas in between - the shuttle bus is included on your lift pass so it's easy to move from one area of the resort to another. The runs down to the resort itself are quite
tricky and this is not an ideal resort for beginners although there are
a number of good ski schools it's not the easiest place to learn.
Pistes are
generally well groomed and maintained although being a very popular
resort, can
be busy at times. Most pistes are high and it has a very good snow
record
with a long season well into May.
The resort is renowned for
it's nightlife and is very lively although it is one of the few high altitude resorts that have retained the village ambience. There are numerous bars, clubs and
restaurants including some quieter hotel bars, piano bars and cocktail
lounges. For the non-ski activities, there is also a choice including a
swimming pool, sports hall, saunas, hammam, hot-tubs and massage facilities
plus a natural skating rink and various other outside activities
