Resort Information - St Martin de Belleville |
|
 |
| |
St Martin de Belleville is an unspoilt, traditonal village with some very old, beautiful buildings including a stunning 16th century church, lit up at night. Since being developed as a ski resort, the new buildings have been built in the same character and it makes a lovely base from which to explore the whole Three Valleys area which is easily accessible. The resort is linked on one side to Meribel and on the other side to Les Menuires and is a very popular lunchtime stop off point for skiers travelling between the two resorts.
In the local area, there are some long and good blue and red runs making the resort good for intermediates. For beginners, there is a ski school in the village but nursery slopes are limited so probably better to stay at Les Menuires a little higher up! For experts, there are some good off-piste areas which are rarely busy. The village is relatively low and faces West so snow reliability can be an issue at times - however, as the lifts are gondolas it is easy to take the lift for the last little bit of the descent if you are unlucky and the ambience and feel of the village itself makes up for the slight inconvenience of the snow conditions for some.
The resort has a large amount of acccommodation available for it's size, including some large properties for self catered groups and also boasts a number of good restaurants and bars for those evenings out. If you're looking for the traditional French village, and more than just slope convenience, then this could be the place for you.
