Resort Information - Meribel

e

Meribel is located in the middle of the Three Valleys with the Courchevel/La Tania valley on one side and the Val Thorens/Les Menuires valley on the other side.  It therefore has very easy access to the whole area with all it's 600km of pistes to try out with a great variety of terrain.  The slopes of Meribel aren't the highest of the Three Valleys but snowmaking on the lower slopes has improved this in recent years.  The resort itself is very tastefully built as they have always developed tradtional chalet-style buildings rather than the ugly blocks you see in almost every other resort at some point.  It therefore has great ambience and that cosy alpine village feel.  Very little of the accommodation is ski-in/ski-out but there is a free shuttle bus running around the resort to make sure you can get to the pistes.

There are a number of different areas in Meribel, the most in demand (and most busy and expensive!) being Meribel Centre where the majority of the nightlife and shopping is to be found.  Meribel Mussillon is located just below and Meribel Rond Point above.  A satellite village has recently been created 2km from the centre - Meribel Villages has some lovely apartment residences and is served by a lift taking you up to the Altiport and a blue piste making return very easy.  Towards the Val Thorens valley, you will find Meribel Mottaret which is a more modern and much cheaper village.  And finally, there are various small villages a few kilometres below Meribel Centre which are linked by gondola to the main resort but are usually impossible to ski back to - these include the main one Meribel Les Allues.

Meribel is one of the best French ski resorts for apres ski with great (and loud!) bars, restaurants and nightclubs.  There is also the Olympic ice rink centre, swimming pool, climbing wall and spa.  There's plenty to do in Meribel - both on and off piste.
